The Customer Challenge

As an intuVision Certified Reseller Partner, Bi3 was tasked with delivering an automated video solution to detect suspicious activity at unattended petrol stations (gas stations) across England.

The unusual use case scenarios were identifying a person at a pump without a vehicle present; and detecting vehicles left unattended at pumps for over seven minutes without a person present.

The Solution - intuVision VA

Using intuVision VA’s standard events in Security and Parking modules and Compound Event feature, Bi3 was able to meet these complex requirements, combining relevant event detection components to attain the use case logic. This streamlined approach enabled a fast, efficient deployment while delivering a powerful and scalable monitoring solution.

Project Overview

With the rise of unattended petrol stations (gas stations) across England, ensuring safety and compliance with government and corporate regulations has become increasingly critical. To address these challenges, intuVision video analytics are being used to automatically detect and alert on key safety and security related events:

• A vehicle parked at a pump for more than 7 minutes without a person present.
• A person at a pump without a vehicle present.
• Detection of smoke or fire.

Solution

Bi3 delivered a turn-key system using cost-effective hardware, such as low-cost cameras and mini-PCs running intuVision VA Parking and Security modules to monitor activities around the pumps and detect smoke and fire at the stations. Alerts are automatically sent to central monitoring stations, where they can be quickly reviewed and escalated to first responders if needed.

intuVision VA Parking

Detects vehicle presence at gas and petrol pumps, and tracks the duration a vehicle remains there to determine if a vehicle is unattended beyond the required time threshold.

intuVision VA Security

Monitors person activity throughout the station, detecting individuals near gas and petrol pumps with or without accompanying vehicles. Detects and alerts smoke and fire outdoors where smoke detectors are inadequate.

Proven Success of the Solution

Bi3’s PFS Solution system using intuVision VA has been successfully deployed at numerous petrol stations across England and is now entering its third year of operation. The system has demonstrated its effectiveness by delivering timely and reliable alerts with minimal false positives, significantly improving the overall safety of unattended fueling stations while lowering the monitoring costs.
